Traffic Alert! Chandigarh police issues advisory ahead of farmers rally today: Check traffic restrictions, diversions

With the Samyukta Kisan Morcha announcing rallies, marches and public outreach campaigns across India, Punjab farmers planned to travel towards Chandigarh, prompting the Chandigarh Police to issue a traffic alert.
More than 10,000 farmers are expected to enter Chandigarh today (November 26, 2025) for the nationwide protest by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), marking the fifth anniversary of the 2020 “Delhi Chalo” agitation. Farmers across Punjab will gather at Dussehra Ground, Sector 43, for a day-long program; hence, Chandigarh police have implemented a comprehensive traffic advisory and safety plan.
Chandigarh bans traffic ahead of farmers’ rally today
While Chandigarh is expected to be the focal point of the Punjab leg of the agitation, the city police have deployed over 1,000 personnel for crowd management and security. In anticipation of heavy tractor-tram movement, a reserve force has been deployed at Attawa Chowk and near the Judicial Complex to meet emergencies or reinforcement needs. Various checkpoints have been set up at important junctions, including Attawa Chowk and Sector 42/43 minor area.

Chandigarh police advised travelers to avoid these routes and plan alternative routes before their travel plans. Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Sumer Partap Singh, advised the public to follow real-time updates on the police’s social media accounts: @trafficchd on X, @trafficchd on Instagram and @ChandigarhTrafficPolice on Facebook. “We call on the public to cooperate with the police and deeply regret any inconvenience caused by these restrictions/redirections,” the advisory said.
