Tragedy as police officer found dead on Northern Ireland beach | UK | News

The body of a police officer has been found on a picturesque beach in England, according to local news. The remains of the man, understood to be a detective inspector, were found on Sunday at Whiterocks Beach outside Portrush, Co Antrim, in Northern Ireland.

Police cordons were put in place and the public was asked to stay away from the area. Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council deputy mayor Richard Stewart appealed for the family’s privacy. He expressed his sadness at the news and praised the work of emergency services.

Mr Stewart said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased at what is an incredibly difficult and sad time for them.

“I would also like to express my gratitude to the emergency services and everyone who responded to the incident with professionalism, dignity and care.

“I would ask people to respect the family’s privacy as investigations continue.”

Elsewhere in Northern Ireland, a man’s body was found in the water at Kilbroney Park on the Coast Road in Rostrevor at around 8.45am on Sunday.

A police spokesman said: “A post-mortem will be carried out in due course… The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

South Down DUP MLA Diane Forsythe described it as “incredibly sad news”.

He added: “My thoughts and prayers are with this man’s family friends, those who discovered him and the emergency services who responded to the incident.”
