‘Tragic’: Queensland crash leaves mother and daughter dead, police appeal for vehicle sightings

Police investigating the fatal Doomadgee crash that killed a 30-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter have released images of the vehicles involved and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
The accident, which occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Friday, November 7, involved a white 2006 Toyota LandCruiser and a black 2011 Nissan Maxima, carrying the woman and her four children.
The LandCruiser rolled over during the incident, killing the driver and a child.
Three other children, a 1-year-old boy, a 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy, were hospitalized.
While one remained in critical condition, the other was stabilized and the little boy suffered minor injuries.
A 28-year-old man, who was in a separate vehicle at the time, is being detained by the police.
Authorities confirmed he was in a relationship with the woman and was the parent and stepfather of the children. No charges were made.
Acting Mount Isa District Superintendent Paul Austin said the footage was vital to helping police piece together the events leading up to the crash.
“What happened on Friday is nothing short of a tragedy and our officers are committed to fully investigating what happened, as well as working with the Doomadgee community,” Inspector Austin said.

“The images of these vehicles are conflicting but we hope they can assist our investigations into this matter and help our police officers better understand what is happening.
“We would urge anyone who may have seen these vehicles or interacted with their occupants in the days or hours before Friday to contact Doomadgee or Mount Isa Police, as well as Crime Stoppers or Policelink.”
Police placed both vehicles in Mount Isa for examination and investigators continue to investigate all possible factors, including the potential role of domestic violence.
“We’re looking at everything,” Inspector Austin said.
“As you can imagine, this is an absolutely tragic incident. The investigation must be methodical and thorough.”
