Travel chaos as LNER services down following ‘multiple disruptive incidents’ | UK | News

LNER announced multiple services were affected by “disruptive events” on the lines on Sunday. Trains between York and Leeds have been affected in both directions by landslides and a broken rail is disrupting southbound services between York and Doncaster.
The train line said that services operating on these lines will be postponed, changed or canceled at the last minute. It was warned that the outages were expected to last until the end of the day. LNER added: “Landslides in the Wakefield Westgate area mean some lines are blocked. As a result, trains passing through this station may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, diverted or revised.
“Major disruption is expected by the end of the day.”
The second announcement said: “The railway break between York and Doncaster/Sheffield means the southbound line is blocked.
“Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, revised or diverted. Disruption is expected until 18:00.”
Rail renewal services will operate between Doncaster and Leeds via Wakefield Westgate and between Leeds and York. From Doncaster to Leeds, some services are routed via Castleford, with an additional stop in York.

The problems are also affecting routes at London stations, which will be busier than usual and journey times will be longer.
LNER confirmed that tickets can be used on alternative routes at no additional cost up to two hours before or after the canceled service.
He explained: “Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on alternative LNER, Northern and TransPennine Express trains up to two hours before or after the canceled service, or on one of two LNER services before or after that train (whichever is best suited to help you complete your journey).
“You do not need to buy a new ticket. Our customers who postponed their travel today, Sunday, February 15, can use their tickets on Monday, February 16, without paying any extra fee.”
