Brazil’s Lula hopes EU-Mercosur trade deal will be signed in January

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Saturday he hoped a major free trade agreement between South American bloc Mercosur and the European Union would be signed in January. Protests by European farmers and opposition from France and Italy on Friday threatened to scrap a deal negotiated for more than 26 years.
