Tributes pour in for woman, 19, mauled to death by ‘family pet’ | UK | News

Tributes have poured in for the 19-year-old woman who was mauled to death by a dog described as the “family pet”. Essex Police were called to a property in Leaden Roding, near Dunmow, at 10.45pm on Friday, where officers found the teenager with serious injuries.

Despite the intervention of emergency teams, the 19-year-old young man died at the scene. The dog thought to be responsible for the attack was confiscated by the police. Friends and relatives have paid online tribute to Jamie-Lea Biscoe following the tragedy.

A relative wrote on Facebook: “Dear Jamie-Lea, tear our daughter apart.” Family friend Tina Wells said the dog was a “seven-year-old wobbly” and “family pet”. A man has been arrested after a 19-year-old woman died after being attacked by a dog at a property in Essex, Essex Police said. The 37-year-old was arrested on suspicion of responsibility for a dog that went dangerously out of control and caused fatal injuries after the incident near Dunmow on Friday. He remains in custody.

Neighbors have spoken of their shock after the tragedy in the quiet Essex village.

A neighbor said: “This is truly tragic. I feel sorry for the whole family. The children loved him so much. We didn’t know what happened until this morning.”

“This is devastating for everyone. We share the family’s pain. We are still trying to figure it out. It’s been a shock.”

Another resident added: “They kept to themselves, never gave us any trouble. It’s very, very sad and very tragic.”

Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper of Essex Police said: “I know this incident will come as a shock to the local community. “My thoughts, and those of all of us at Essex Police, are with the loved ones of the woman who died yesterday.

“We will have officers in the area throughout today so if you have any information or concerns please come and speak to them. Experienced detectives are carrying out the investigation to find out exactly what happened.”

In a full statement, Essex Police said: “A woman has died following an incident involving a dog at a house in Dunmow. “We were called to an address in Leaden Roding at 10.45pm on Friday, April 10 and officers quickly arrived at the scene to find a 19-year-old woman who was seriously injured.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene. “We are investigating to establish the circumstances and believe he was attacked by a dog at the property in Long Hide.

“Specialist officers secured the scene and the dog was seized. A 37-year-old man from Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of being responsible for a dog that went dangerously out of control and caused fatal injuries. He is now in custody.”
