Trinamool chief Mamata sits on dharna in Kolkata to protest ‘post-poll violence’

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee started her day on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 dharna He is in central Kolkata to protest against allegations of post-poll attacks on party workers and leaders following the BJP’s victory in the last Assembly elections.

Ms Banerjee reached the dharna site at Esplanade’s Y canal after TMC’s call to hold the protest on neighboring Rani Rashmoni Road was rejected by the Kolkata Police.

“We were not allowed to set up a stage or use a microphone,” Ms. Banerjee said while addressing the crowd using a megaphone.

The protest was marked by chaos, with TMC workers shouting slogans during the former chief minister’s speech.

Ms. Banerjee was seen accompanied by the party’s old guard Firhad Hakim, Madan Mitra, Derek O’Brien, Kalyan Banerjee and Dola Sen, amidst the conspicuous absence of most of the new faces who won assembly seats on TMC tickets.

However, the party leadership asserted that: dharnaThe alleged post-poll violence and evacuation of hawkers to protest the attack on his nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday will continue till evening as planned.
