Tripura launches Census 2027 self-enumeration, Governor leads by example

Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, as the first citizen of the state, launched the initiative by personally completing the self-enumeration process on the designated online portal, setting an example for citizens of the state to follow.
Director of Census Operations Tripura Ratan Biswas said that the self-counting process, which is the first phase of the Census exercise, started on Friday and will continue until July 31.
He said the second phase of the first phase, House Listing and House Counting, will be conducted between August 1 and August 30 across the state.
During this period, enumerators and auditors, most of whom are public school teachers, will visit each household to collect details of families, residences and other housing-related information.
Another official said that the second phase of the Census, which includes the Census, will be conducted in February 2027, during which enumerators and auditors will collect detailed information about each individual, including socio-economic characteristics. Training for thousands of census personnel, including enumerators and auditors, was completed Thursday ahead of the nationwide exercise.
Nallu appealed to the people of the state to actively participate in the exercise and complete their own census within the stipulated time. He said census data plays an important role in policy making, including establishing schools and hospitals, planning infrastructure and reorganizing constituencies.
The Governor observed that although a village may survive in official records, if its inhabitants do not participate in the census, for planning purposes it may be considered a village without de facto inhabitants.
He therefore called on every citizen to ensure their participation in the Census process. The governor also assured the public that the highest standards of confidentiality will be maintained in the processing of census data.
He said the information collected will be used only for planning and development purposes and will not be shared with any other institution.
Reddy Nallu also appealed to citizens to provide accurate information, stating that incorrect details could adversely affect development planning and even delimitation of constituencies.
He called on the people of Tripura to actively participate in the nationwide exercise, stating that an accurate Census is vital for equitable distribution of government funds and effective development planning among districts, urban local bodies and Gram Panchayats.
The governor said population data forms the basis for allocation of resources, formulation of welfare policies and implementation of development projects.
He emphasized that providing accurate information is vital, as inaccurate data can negatively impact planning and the delivery of government aid.
The governor noted that the census, traditionally held every 10 years, was postponed due to the Covid-19 epidemic and will be held in 2027.
He also stated that every household and workplace, including brick kilns, workers’ settlements and other temporary settlements, will be covered to ensure that no individual is left out of the counting process.
Director of Census Operations Ratan Biswas also appealed to citizens to complete their own census by visiting the Census portal.
He said the entire process takes no more than 10 minutes to complete and can be done easily from home.
Biswas added that an extensive public awareness campaign has been going on across the state for the last few days to encourage maximum public participation and ensure successful conduct of the exercise.
