President Donald Trump said that on Saturday, the United States will apply 30% tariff to the goods that will enter into force from the European Union and Mexico on August 1st.
Trump announced new rates literature European Commission President Ursula von der leyen and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum published Real social on the social media site.
If the EU or Mexico retaliates with higher tariffs, he said, “Then, whatever the number you choose to raise them, it will be added to 30%.”
The EU was looking for at least a preliminary agreement that would prevent him from becoming the latest buyer of a letter dictating a new, general tariff in exports from Trump to the United States.
The 27 -member block sells more than all other countries to the United States: Total US goods imports from the EU exceeded $ 553 billion in 2022 US Trade Representative Office.
However, after Trump supports the threat of slapping 50% on the block, he still managed to secure one, although he pointed to progress in both sides’ negotiations.
This week, Trump sent similar letters to 23 US trade partners, including Canada, Japan and Brazil, and set up blanket tariff rates of 20% to 50%.
Letters mostly frame new tariff levels as a necessary part of the efforts of Trump administration to create a more “mutual” global trade view.
When Trump implemented an almost global 10% tariff on April 2, and when he defeated higher tasks on imports from about 60 individual countries, he fell with the announcement of the “Salvation Day” tariff.
The announcement launched crazy sales days in global markets. A week later, Trump made a 90 -day pause for almost all high tariffs.
Trade officials claimed that the US could make up to 90 new trade agreements in this December. However, when the pause time was arranged on Wednesday, the administration had made preliminary agreements only with the UK and Vietnam.
On Monday, Trump extended his tariff pause until August 1st. The tariff rates determined in the last letters are planned to start on the same day.
Trump told NBC News on Thursday that he plans to increase the global tariff base line by up to 20%.
“Whether it’s just 20% or 15%, we’ll say that all the remaining countries will pay. We will solve it now.” He said.
