Trump attacks Democrats as ‘godless communists’ in test of midterms message | Donald Trump

Donald Trump previewed a Republican strategy for the midterm elections, making a progressive move in New York to portray Democrats as “godless communists” who pose an existential threat to the nation.

The US president, who was a child during the “red scare”, capitalized on victories by democratic socialists backed by New York mayor Zohran Mamdani, fueling fears that the Democratic party was embracing extremism that could lead to violent persecution of Christians.

On Friday, Trump was addressing religious conservatives at the annual meeting of the Faith and Freedom Coalition. Road to Majority conference He was there for the first time since April, when he was rushed off the stage following an assassination attempt at the White House correspondents’ dinner at the Washington Hilton hotel.

“I don’t remember this place from so long ago,” he joked. “I hope we have a slightly more pleasant experience.”

Trump touched on some familiar themes in his speech, defending his war in Iran, making baseless claims of election fraud and emphasizing the importance of Republicans retaining control of the House and Senate in the November midterm elections.

He focused on Tuesday’s Democratic primary results in New York; here three left-wing candidates backed by democratic socialist Mamdani, the city’s first Muslim mayor, upset incumbent or established rivals.

The radical left “wants to continue the transgender mutilation of children, they want to restart the war against Christians and churches, and as you saw recently with the communists elected in New York… they want to completely destroy the traditional American way of life,” Trump warned.

“Communism is very easy to sell. It destroys everything, but it’s very easy. And I’ll be honest; I think I’ll be the greatest communist in history.” The president sarcastically said that as a communist he could give free rent, housing and food, but the country would inevitably collapse in two or three years. “Everyone will suffer or die. That’s what happens,” he said.

Trump, who has been subjected to three assassination attempts in the last two years, added darkly: “I’m sorry to say this, but the assassinations of those who oppose them are a very important element of their ideology. Assassinations are very important to them. They are animals!”

He called the election winners in New York “very problematic people” and claimed without evidence that “they want to destroy our country, they hate our country and our people.”

Republicans lagged in the polls for months as voters accused Trump of failing to deliver on campaign promises to lower prices and keep the United States out of foreign wars. But party strategists believe they have found an opening in Mamdani’s rise, giving them the opportunity to tag the entire Democratic party with the left’s most extreme views.

“The Democratic party is in big trouble,” Trump said. “This doesn’t stop with New York.”

The president accused the Democratic party establishment of capitulating to the left. “They are not smart or strong enough to fight the plague that is unfolding before your eyes… They are becoming a communist party, not a social democrat. They are core communists.”

Addressing the religious right, Trump emphasized the following: “All communists are godless. They do not believe in God… These ruthless communists attack all religions, especially Christianity. They do it all the time. They are after Christianity more than other religions.” Trump stated that the US military intervened in Nigeria to save the persecuted Christian population. Nigeria is not a communist country.

After referring to terrorists abroad, He suddenly turned to say: “They will close your churches in this country. They will become communists – and they are trying to do that – they will kill your people and that is their goal. They want to end religion. They have to end religion because their ideology doesn’t work if you have a strong religion – incredible people like you, they love our country and they love God.”

“This is the greatest threat to our country since its founding 250 years ago.”

Trump was not the only politician at the conference to try to appeal to religious rights, who have long believed they were under siege from an increasingly secular America. mike johnsonThe House speaker told the Faith and Freedom Coalition: “Right now, the foundations of America are under severe and unprecedented attack, and you know that’s true.

“This midterm will be unlike anything in history. There’s a dangerous trend in the country right now. The best way to describe what I’m seeing is the emergence of little mini-Mamdanis running for Congress all over the country.”

As the audience applauded, Johnson added: “Some of the most radical people who have ever run for office are going to the polls in the fall and running for Congress… The danger we have now is the energy, the excitement, the grassroots operation, the money being on the side of the insurgent left, and Marxists openly running for Congress as communists!”

The speaker reminded that during the Cold War, then-president Ronald Reagan warned about the dangers of communism. “He was saying there was a threat out there. Now it’s on our own shores, in our homeland.”

Johnson ran through a “best-liked” list of left-wing candidates who he claimed variously refused to pledge allegiance, had ties to Al Qaeda and other terrorists, wanted to abolish the border and police, sought to decriminalize “trans prostitution,” apologized for being white, had a Satanist wedding, and stopped going to church because Trump supporters were there. “The rebel left took over the government,” he said.

The conference was being held a little more than a week before the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. Trump admitted that the beleaguered Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool, which turned green due to algae growth after a $14.7 million renovation, won’t be ready on time. “We just looked into it,” he said. “We’ll fix it right after the Fourth of July. We need to get the water out. Just fix it.”

The president once again blamed “vandals” for the problems. Although no evidence emerged to support the claim that a vandal had cut a 350-foot breach in the pool, a National Park Service official said in a sworn court affidavit that on June 9, park police were investigating deliberate intentional damage to the pool.

In his second term, Trump shook the trust of some of his supporters with unexpected moves. But others remain determined. Sandy Schoepke, who sold Trump merchandise and flashy jackets to conference attendees, said: “He’s doing absolutely amazing. Whatever he does, I’m fine with it.”

Tom Miller, 73, added: “He’s a great guy. He breaks all kinds of records for the sanctity of human life, religious liberty and freedom.” Miller believes Trump has made Iran safer, commenting: “Thank God, he did what he did.”

Felix AngelastroTrump, 65, who runs a Republican digital advertising platform, said he was doing “fine” in his second term but described the Iran war as “troublesome.”

Asked if the president would lose support from his base, Angelastro said, “I think he already has.”
