Claiming that he has unlimited power, US President Donald Trump emphasized that the agreement reached with Iran means Tehran’s “unconditional surrender”. Interview with Axios.
The United States and Iran signed the deal on Thursday after three and a half months of conflict that closed the Strait of Hormuz and shook global energy markets. Trump said in an interview in the United States on Thursday evening that he negotiated the deal to prevent the conflict from triggering a global economic depression.
The memorandum of understanding includes a 60-day ceasefire, reopening of the Bosphorus and a framework for nuclear negotiations; but important details need to be resolved in subsequent talks.
Asked what he had learned from the war about the limits of his power, Trump said: “I haven’t learned that lesson yet. I know there are, but there are no limits.”
U.S. Central Command said Thursday that American forces have lifted all blockades of maritime traffic into and out of Iran’s coastal areas.
“All US efforts to impose a military blockade have been halted,” CENTCOM said in a social media post, adding that its military ships would remain in the general area to ensure all aspects of the agreement were followed.
