Trump claims Iran made ‘state of collapse’ admission – ‘Trying to figure it out’ | World | News

Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is “in a state of collapse” and now wants the US to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz “as soon as possible”.

The US President wrote on the Truth Social platform: “Iran has informed us that they are in a ‘State of Collapse’. While their leadership is trying to resolve their situation, they want us to ‘open the Strait of Hormuz’ as soon as possible (which I believe they can do!). Thank you for your interest in this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.” The post came a day after US officials, including Trump, reviewed an offer from Iran. The plan reportedly aims to end the conflict and reopen the strait while delaying any negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio rejected that idea on Monday, arguing that Iran’s nuclear activities “are the reason we’re in this situation in the first place.”

“I have no doubt that at some point in the future, if this radical religious regime remains in office in Iran, they will decide that they want nuclear weapons,” he told Fox News.

“That fundamental problem still needs to be confronted. It still remains the fundamental problem here.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also confirmed that the president saw the proposal at Monday’s press conference.

He said: “I don’t want to get ahead of the president or his national security team. What I want to reiterate is that the president’s red lines on Iran have been made very, very clear not only to the American public but to them as well.”

But this is not the first time the US president has criticized Iran’s leadership since the war with Tehran began on February 28.

He described Iran’s leadership as “severely fragmented” when announcing the extension of the ceasefire earlier this week.

He said the ceasefire would be extended to allow more time for negotiations and appeared to suggest that Iran’s leadership was in disarray.

Trump added that the US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian ports will continue.
