Trump cuts ties with ‘lunatic’ Marjorie Taylor Greene
US President Donald Trump has withdrawn his support for Republican lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene, citing the longtime supporter’s recent criticism of her agenda.
“I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene from the great state of Georgia,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social late Friday. he said.
Greene, a member of the House of Representatives, has long been a trusted ally and fierce defender of Trump, but in recent weeks she has taken positions at odds with the White House and some of her fellow Republicans.
Trump stated that all Greene did was “complain, complain, complain.” He said their disagreement began after he shared with her a survey that said he had little chance of winning a Senate or governor’s race without her approval.
The president added that conservative voters in Greene’s district might consider her a primary challenger and would support the right candidate against her in next year’s midterm elections.
Greene, who has largely avoided criticizing Trump directly, responded to X by saying he “attacked me and lied about me.”
He suggested he may have been responding to his administration’s efforts to get convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to release all records related to his case. Trump called the outrage over the Epstein case a “hoax” put out by Democrats.
Greene accused Trump of trying to intimidate other Republicans ahead of next week’s vote on releasing the Epstein files, calling it “really surprising that he fought so hard to keep the Epstein files from coming out and actually went to that level.”
She called Trump’s imposition of trade tariffs “bumpy” in recent weeks and criticized his foreign policy focus, saying she wanted him to prioritize domestic issues. Greene also disputed Trump’s claim that inflation is under control and said Republicans need a plan to cover healthcare costs.
