Trump deletes Truth Social image of him as Jesus

President Donald Trump deleted a Truth Social post Monday morning that featured an image of Trump resembling Jesus Christ after it was met with backlash.
“I posted that. I thought it was me as the doctor,” Trump told reporters at the White House, rejecting suggestions that he was supposed to appear as Jesus.
“As a doctor, I was supposed to be the one to heal people,” he said.
Trump released the image, which appears to have been generated by artificial intelligence, on Sunday night, after the president scolded Pope Leo XIV for criticizing U.S. military actions against Iran and Venezuela.
The image depicted Trump wearing a white robe, placing his right hand over a sick or dying man, a bright light emanating from the president’s left hand, and the American flag, eagles and military aircraft flying behind him.
The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC when asked for comment on the deletion of the post.
“I don’t know if the president thought he was being funny, was under the influence, or what explanation he could come up with for this outrageous profanity,” wrote conservative Christian commentator Megan Basham. A post about the image in X.
“But he needs to remove it immediately and ask for forgiveness first from the American people and then from God,” Basham wrote.
The post was one of a series published on Trump’s Truth Social account Sunday night. The image stood alone without any accompanying words.
