A judge in Georgia on Wednesday dismissed a historic racketeering lawsuit filed against President Donald Trump over his efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 election loss.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee’s decision ends the last criminal case against Trump that remains unresolved after he wins back the White House in 2024.

McAfee’s decision to dismiss the case “completely” came shortly after prosecutor Peter Skandalakis moved to dismiss the case against Trump and other defendants “in the interest of justice and to promote judicial certainty.”

Trump’s lead lawyer in the case, Steve Sadow, said in a statement to CNBC, “The political persecution of President Trump by disqualified Prosecutor Fani Willis has finally come to an end.”

Sadow said, “This case should never have been opened. A fair and impartial prosecutor brought this case to an end.”

The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
