Trump evacuated after gunshots heard at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

President Donald Trump was evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night after multiple gunshots were heard in the ballroom.
At least five gunshots were heard at the event at the Washington Hilton hotel. Moments after White House Correspondents Association President Weija Jiang made the announcement, voices appeared to be coming from the back of the ballroom as attendees were eating their first meal.
Trump, who was sitting next to First Lady Melania Trump on the stage in front of the ballroom, was quickly surrounded by members of the US Secret Service, while many attendees took shelter under their tables.
Video of the event shows the president being led off the stage seconds later as armed guards wearing tactical gear and large rifles appear at the podium.
The event was attended by several senior Trump administration officials, including Vice President J.D. Vance, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Jiang said a few minutes after the incident that the meal would continue.
“I know everyone would want as much detail as possible, and we don’t have those details right now,” he said from the stage.
