Trump health fears soar as Republicans reveal concerns – ‘he’s become erratic with age’ | US | News

Polls show that the American public is increasingly concerned about Donald Trump’s mental acuity and toughness. Trump has made brutal attacks on the declining mental capacity of his predecessor, Joe Biden, as a key part of his campaign for a second term in the White House.

The real estate mogul blasted the 83-year-old after a series of embarrassing gaffes that led even Biden’s own Democratic allies to question his fitness for a second term and Biden was eventually forced to abandon his hopes of running again. But since returning to office, Trump, 79, has faced similar questions about whether he is still in charge; critics accused the Republican firebrand of slowing down and mentally declining in his old age.

His opponents pointed out his verbal slips, such as repeatedly referring to Greenland as ‘Iceland’, his harsh rebukes of established allies, and occasions when he was accused of falling asleep in meetings.

CNN He rounded up a series of recent polls that suggest these concerns are shared by a growing segment of the public, including many Republicans.

A. Reuters-Ipsos The poll, conducted ahead of Trump’s fiery State of the Union address on Tuesday, showed 61 percent of respondents agreeing that the Commander-in-Chief is “becoming unstable with age”; 30 percent of Republican voters agreed.

The survey also found a decline in the percentage of Americans who agree that Trump is “mentally sharp and able to handle challenges,” falling from 54% in September 2023 to 45% in the last survey.

Meanwhile a survey CNN Last month, the percentage of respondents who believed he had “the stamina and acuity to serve effectively as president” fell 53% to 46% in late 2023.

A. Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos Last week’s poll suggested that majorities believe Trump lacks the physical health (51%) or mental acuity (56%) to carry out his duties effectively.

The former is up 23% since May 2023, while the latter is up 13%. As with CNN’s poll, it’s still pretty unclear where Biden stands in the final days of his presidency, with the Democrat in the 60s for both.

However, Trump is just over a year away from his second term, and according to CNN reporting, the share of those who doubt Trump’s mental acuity (56%) is comparable to the poll’s numbers at 54% on the same measure at the same point in Biden’s term (February 2022).

The White House rejects any suggestion that the President is slowing down. Trump’s Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller said: New Yorker magazine He suggests that the title of this feature film should be “‘Superhuman President'”, claiming that his boss “can work harder, has a better memory, and has more stamina and more energy than a normal mortal.”

Meanwhile, the White House physician’s assistant, Dr. James Jones also told the press: “No one can keep up with him. The rest of the staff are tired; we are tired too. But not him.”

And while Trump’s critics are convinced he no longer has what it takes, there is ample evidence that he has a remarkable level of stamina for his age, breaking the record for the longest State of the Union address ever and regularly posting on social media in the wee hours at the end of the workday.
