Trump hits 96% approval in CPAC poll as conservatives back agenda

A new poll finds President Donald Trump’s continued dominance in the conservative movement.

A whopping 96% said they approve of the job Trump is doing as president, according to a poll of more than 1,600 attendees at last week’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), held March 25-28.

94 percent of respondents agree with the statement that Trump is “the best president in my lifetime.”

Support for Trump’s policy agenda was similarly strong.

The poll found that 91 percent of respondents support tariffs aimed at reducing the trade deficit and boosting American workers and businesses.

Another 89% support Trump’s military action in Iran to depose Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and halt the country’s nuclear program, while 92% approve of the detention of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

Other prominent Republicans also scored highly among respondents.

Vice President J.D. Vance received 92% approval, while House Speaker Mike Johnson received 84% approval.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune followed with 57%.

In Trump’s cabinet, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was the most popular name, with 42% calling him their favorite.

He was followed by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

The poll also offered an early glimpse into the GOP’s future.

In the hypothetical 2028 Republican primary, Vance is ahead with 53% support, ahead of Rubio with 35% support, and all other candidates are in single digits.

On the Democratic side, participants identified California Governor Gavin Newsom and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as the clearest names on the political left.

Founded in 1964, CPAC is the nation’s oldest conservative grassroots community and promotes the values ​​of “life, liberty, and property.”

86% of survey participants were from the South and the average age was approximately 49 years old.
