President Donald Trump’s administration held an emergency meeting in the Situation Room on Wednesday regarding efforts to release the Justice Department’s files on Jeffrey Epstein.
According to CNN, senior officials from the Trump administration met with a prominent Republican lawmaker regarding the vote to seal the documents in the House of Representatives.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the meeting at a press conference later Wednesday when asked about reports that officials had met with Rep. Lauren Boebert. Express USA.
“Doesn’t this demonstrate the level of transparency when we are willing to sit down with members of Congress and address their concerns?” he said. “I will not go into detail about the conversations that took place in the Situation Room.”
Situation Room emergency
A source told CNN that the Situation Room meeting included Boebert, who demanded that the Justice Department release its files on convicted sex offenders and supported a petition that would force a vote mandating their release.
Boebert is not expected to withdraw her name from the petition after the meeting, a source told CNN.
While administration officials contacted the Colorado Republican, the president himself tried to influence South Carolina Congresswoman Rep. Nancy Mace, another Republican who endorsed the petition.

The two engaged in “phone tag,” according to CNN. Mace had previously denied speculation that he planned to remove his name from the petition.
Wednesday’s frantic attempts to meet with Boebert and ongoing efforts to win over Mace underscore the Trump administration’s concern about the Epstein documents, which returned to public attention after the House Oversight Committee disclosed additional documents from the Epstein estate.
The documents reveal that Epstein referred to Trump by name multiple times in private correspondence over the last 15 years of his existence.
Democrat pressure
The cables included Epstein alleging that Democrats on the Oversight Committee spent considerable time with a woman allegedly connected to Epstein’s sex-trafficking operation and that Trump spent considerable time with her.
Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in connection with the Epstein affair, has not faced any allegations of wrongdoing by law enforcement, and has never been identified as the focus of any investigation.
