Trump HUD cuts illegal immigrant housing aid, ends Biden border mess

In his final speech to the American people, President Donald Trump said: “Eleven months ago I inherited a mess. And I’m fixing it.”
Trump inherited a disaster when it comes to the border. Border security has become a joke during the Biden administration, which has allowed millions of illegal aliens to flood into our country. This disgrace not only made a mockery of our laws, but also increased demand for affordable housing, which in turn increased housing costs for American families.
A recent report from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) found that foreign-born immigrants accounted for two-thirds of the growth in rental demand nationwide. Some places, such as California and New York, have seen a 100% increase in immigrant-driven rental demand.
Painfully, some illegals have even received housing assistance from HUD and diverted taxpayer dollars from American citizens. Under Trump’s leadership, HUD is putting an end to this madness. We prevented illegals from obtaining FHA-insured mortgages and, because public housing is supposed to be safe housing, we announced a hotline to report those living illegally in HUD housing, along with other criminals. We take decisive action to ensure that HUD-funded programs and resources do not benefit ineligible persons or illegal persons.
HOUSING COSTS ARE CRUSHING FAMILIES – HERE’S THE WAY OUT

The mess Trump is fixing goes beyond immigration, and over the past year HUD has racked up win after win to restore sanity and common sense to housing policy. By promoting deregulation, self-sufficiency, and common sense, we are bringing the American Dream of homeownership back into the grasp of the American people.
We started by rescinding the Biden-era Affirmative Action Fair Housing (AFFH) rule. The Biden administration’s negligence in enforcing border security has been matched only by its zeal to impose burdensome regulations on innocent Americans, and the AFFH rule has burdened America’s suburbs with red tape. Ending this regulation was a critical step in restoring freedom to local communities.
You cannot edit your path to prosperity. But you can innovate.
HUD CHIEF BLAMES ‘UNCONTROLLED ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION’ FOR PRICING FAMILIES ON NEW HOUSING REPORT
This is one of America’s core strengths, along with market-based solutions and private sector creativity. At Trump’s direction, we are realigning HUD away from over-regulation and toward supporting these fundamental tenets of our economy.
That’s why I’ve been a long-time advocate for Opportunity Zones. This landmark policy lifted more than 1 million Americans out of poverty. And Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, the largest tax cut for working families in modern history, permanently enhances Opportunity Zones. Opportunity Zones are now expected to support over $100 billion in investment, create more than 1 million new jobs, and facilitate the construction of hundreds of thousands of new homes.
I have personally been to 13 Opportunity Zones in Florida, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Georgia and other states and witnessed how lives have changed.
TRUMP’S 50-YEAR MORTGAGE BRINGS A NEW TYPE OF DEBT
In Green Bay, Wisconsin, I visited a vacant factory site that was being transformed into a mixed-use area with affordable homes and thriving businesses; a $5 billion project offering new housing and office space in Atlanta, Georgia; and a factory in Columbus, Ohio, that uses cutting-edge methods for building modular homes. I spoke with business owners, workers, and residents who saw downtown areas rejuvenated and saw the new life that revitalized these places.
Of course, HUD still provides crucial housing assistance, and the numbers prove it.
The mess Trump is fixing goes beyond immigration, and over the past year HUD has racked up win after win to restore sanity and common sense to housing policy.
This year, we helped more than 1 million Americans achieve the American Dream of homeownership by insuring their mortgages through HUD’s Federal Housing Administration. This is in addition to the work of HUD’s State National Mortgage Association, or Ginnie Mae, which provides critical liquidity for more than 430,000 Veterans Affairs loans.
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TARGETS $3.3 BILLION HOMELESS HOUSING PROGRAM, 170,000 PEOPLE MAY FACE RETURN TO THE STREETS: REPORT
We welcomed the return of more than 350,000 faith-based organizations to the table as partners to combat homelessness, provide care to the most vulnerable, and help them achieve self-sufficiency rather than permanent government dependence.
In addition to supporting homeownership, HUD also assists Americans whose homes are damaged or destroyed in natural disasters. This year, we provided $12 billion in disaster recovery funds to communities impacted and damaged by floods, storms and other disasters.

I have personally visited California, North Carolina, and my beloved state of Texas to meet survivors of fires, storms, and floods, listen to their needs, and see how HUD can help them recover from the debris.
But HUD cannot properly focus on such important work while our resources and energy are wasted promoting radical political ideology.

That’s why our anti-woke campaign included canceling $250 million in wasteful contracts and disbanding the PAVE task force that was disrupting housing markets to address so-called “systemic biases.” We also restored the security of HUD shelters for vulnerable women by ending enforcement of the Biden-era rule that allowed men to occupy these safe zones. Finally, in cities like Boston, we held local leaders accountable and launched an investigation into illegal, race-based housing policies.
We have much more to do next year and beyond, but our achievements in 2025 have laid the foundation for success on which we will continue to build. As we approach our great nation’s 250th birthday, HUD will continue to protect and promote independence and self-sufficiency as the key to the American Dream of homeownership.
