Bribery Case Filed Against HCA Junior Selectors Over U-19 Picks

Hyderabad: A case has been registered against the chairman and two members of the junior selection panel of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) after the father of an under-19 player accused them of demanding bribes, police said on Thursday.
The complainant alleged that the panel did not follow the selection procedure, excluding deserving players and dropping them despite them performing well in group level matches, a police official said.
He also alleged “massive” corruption by the youth selection committee over the last three seasons and that only those considered for selection and on the prospect list were given opportunities after paying money and receiving “permission”.
He also made accusations over fake birth certificates (related to players’ age) and added that talented players are being victimized due to such “malpractices”. The complainant alleged that the HCA’s Under-19 selection panel removed his son, a bowler, from the list of prospects for 2023-24 and again for the 2025-26 season after he refused to pay the alleged bribe.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Uppal Police Station against HCA’s junior selection panel chairman Sudeep Tyagi and two members of relevant sections of BNS on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust and other sections. The official said they are investigating the incident further.
