Trump issues Artemis 2 launch message as he boasts ‘we are winning’ | Science | News

Donald Trump issued a loud message ahead of the historic Artemis 2 launch on April 1. The US President said on social media platform Truth Social that his country is a “WINNER in Space, on Earth and everywhere in between.” Mr Trump praised the astronaut team for going “BEYOND THE STARS” ahead of the first Moon mission in more than 50 years.
He wrote: “Tonight at 6:24 PM EST, America returns to the Moon for the first time in over 50 years! Artemis II, one of the most powerful rockets ever built, launches our Brave Astronauts deeper into Space than any human has ever gone before. WE WIN in Space, on Earth, and everywhere in between – Economically, Militaryly, and now BEYOND THE STARS.”
“No one comes close! America doesn’t just compete, we DOMINATE and the whole World is watching.
“God bless our incredible Astronauts, God bless NASA, and God bless the United States of America, the Greatest Nation that has ever existed! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
If this date is missed due to adverse weather conditions or other issues, additional opportunities are available for launch through April 6 and then again at the end of the month.
The rocket’s crew consists of astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. They will be the first humans to fly on the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft.
It was scheduled to launch in February, but a helium leak was discovered and it had to return to the Vehicle Assembly Building in Cape Canaveral for repairs.
Artemis 2 has already been delayed by two years after the first mission revealed problems with the heat shield during the Space Launch System and flight of the Orion capsule to the Moon with no one on board.
