Trump New Jersey U.S. Attorney Alina Habba steps down

Alina Habba, who previously served as President Donald Trump’s defense attorney, said Monday that she resigned as U.S. Attorney for New Jersey after judges disqualified her from the position.
Habba’s resignation came a week after the U.S. Court of Appeals, 3rd Circuit, upheld a ruling that the district court judge was unfit to serve as attorney general because of the circumstances in which he was appointed.
Habba and Attorney General Pam Bondi said Habba will remain at the Justice Department as senior counsel to the attorney general for the U.S. Attorneys General. Bondi also said the Justice Department would continue to “review” the appeals court’s decision.
“As a result of the Third Circuit’s decision and to preserve the stability and integrity of the office I love, I have decided to step down as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey,” Habba said in a statement about X. he said.
“I regret to accept Alina’s resignation,” Bondi said on X.
Lindsey Halligan, another former lawyer for President Trump, was also recently barred by a judge from serving as the lead federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of Virginia.
