Trump pauses planned Iran attack, cites progress toward peace deal

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he would delay the “bombing and attack on Iran” for two weeks, citing talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Trump said the decision came after the leaders demanded the United States “stop the destructive force being sent to Iran tonight”; This demand had previously threatened that it would start at 8pm eastern time if an agreement was not reached.

The President said that the postponement was contingent on the Islamic Republic of Iran reaching an agreement on the “COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz.”

“This will be a bilateral ceasefire!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “The reason we are doing this is because we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives and are very close to a definitive Agreement on Long Term PEACE with Iran and PEACE in the Middle East.”

He added that the administration had received a 10-point proposal from Iran and that officials “believe this is a workable basis for negotiation.”

“Nearly all past disputes between the United States and Iran have been agreed upon, but a two-week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and completed,” Trump said. “As President and on behalf of the United States of America representing the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor that this long-term problem is close to a solution.”
