US-Venezuela Conflict: US President Donald Trump on Saturday shared a photo of incumbent Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro aboard the USS Iwo Jima. This came just hours after Trump announced that Maduro, along with his wife, had been “captured” and “flown out” of the country as part of a large-scale US military operation.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump shared the photo and wrote: “Nicolas Maduro aboard USS Iwo Jima.”

Previously, Trump had given the following information on the social media platform ‘Truth Social’: “The United States has successfully carried out a large-scale attack against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who was captured and sent out of the country with his wife.”

He noted that this operation is being conducted in conjunction with US law enforcement and that further details will be provided at a press conference to be held at Mar-a-Lago at 11 a.m. (local time).

US-Venezuela Tension

Several large explosions were heard in the Venezuelan capital Caracas in the early hours of Saturday.

In its first official statement after the violent explosions were heard in the capital Caracas, the country harshly criticized the US government led by Donald Trump, accusing it of carrying out what it called an “extremely serious military attack”.

It was reported that the incidents occurred around 02:00 in the morning local time and caused panic in many parts of the capital.

Following the explosions, Venezuelan President Maduro declared a national emergency.

Meanwhile, the Venezuelan government issued a harsh statement condemning Washington, claiming that the attack appeared to be “an attempt to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, especially its oil and minerals, and to break the country’s political independence by force.”
