‘No confidence move’ against Shweta Menon-led leadership adds to speculations over AMMA general body
The reported plan by a section of Malayalam Movie Artistes Association (AMMA) members to move a no-confidence motion against the leadership led by actor Shweta Menon has increased speculations on the outcome of the annual general meeting of the film fraternity forum held in Kochi, amid a series of controversies surrounding it.

Reports have said that a section opposed to the current leadership is planning to move a motion of no confidence against the committee led by Ms Menon, citing its failure to run the day-to-day affairs of the organization and resolve recent disputes among some members that have led to police cases.

The draft of the so-called no-confidence motion, distributed among members before the meeting, demanded that the current management resign immediately and hand over the task to an interim committee to be appointed by the general assembly. It was stated that the leadership of AMMA has grossly failed to ensure unity in the functioning of the association.
The document asked four questions to the leadership. The questions are about not hosting an annual star show and drinking party in conjunction with a private entertainment channel.In connection with the Kerala International Film Festival, the association’s failure to amicably resolve disputes between its members and the decision to change the venue of the general assembly.
The alleged rebels also questioned the delay in presenting the annual report and balance sheet to members before the general assembly meeting.
While the election of the AMMA executive committee, headed by two women at the helm – Ms Menon as president and actor Cuckoo Parameswaran as general secretary – was hailed as a historic achievement in 2025, the leadership has been facing multiple challenges since then, revealing internal turmoil at the 32-year-old forum.
The general meeting took place amid a series of complaints about AMMA members. While Ansiba Hassan, who left the post of joint secretary, and vice-chairman Lakshmipriya filed complaints against each other, treasurer Unni Shivpal was sent on compulsory leave after an employee of the association complained to the police. Ms. Hassan also filed a police complaint against actor Tiny Tom for allegedly using defamatory and social remarks. Meanwhile, board member Neena Kurup filed a complaint against Mr. Tom with the AMMA leadership, alleging “use of abusive language and attempted physical assault”.
