Trump Says He Discussed Trade With Modi

Washington: US President Donald Trump said he spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and the conversation focused largely on trade.

“We talked about a lot of things, but mostly about the world of business,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Trump stated that energy was also a part of the discussion and said that Modi assured him that India would limit oil purchases from Russia.

Trump said, “He will not buy much oil from Russia. He wants the war to end as much as I do.”

India and China are the two largest buyers of Russian seaborne crude oil exports.

Trump recently targeted India for its oil purchases from Russia and imposed tariffs on Indian exports to the United States to deter the country’s purchases of crude oil as he sought to pressure Moscow to negotiate a peace deal in Ukraine.
