Trump says he will nominate Lance Schroyer as next ICE director | Trump administration

Donald Trump said Saturday that he will nominate Lance Schroyer to be the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), replacing David Venturella, who is acting as director.

He added that Schroyer is “a PATRIOT with real operational experience and a proven leader with DECADES of experience locking down the worst of the worst” and “has first-hand experience getting Illegal Aliens off our streets.”

Markwayne Mullin, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said: Description of X He said Schroyer “will play a vital role in helping the President carry out the American people’s authority to target, detain and deport illegal aliens.”

He added that Schroyer “comes directly from the operational area where he conducts large-scale operations and works with state and federal partners to remove illegal aliens from Oklahoma under the 287g program,” citing the partnership between ICE and state or local law enforcement that delegates federal immigration enforcement authority to local officers.

Both Trump and Mullin urged the Senate to quickly confirm Schroyer. Mullin said “it’s been 11 years” since the Senate confirmed the ICE director.

The agency has not had a Senate-confirmed director since early 2017. Trump has made combating immigration a top priority since taking office last year, but human rights groups say the government’s actions violate civil liberties and create an unsafe environment, especially for ethnic minorities.

ICE has been at the center of Trump’s crackdown on immigrants with detentions and deportation attempts. ICE agents fatally shot two US citizens, Alex Pretti and Renee Good, in Minnesota in January, sparking protests across the country.

Trump justified his deportation campaign by saying it was “aimed at reducing illegal immigration and improving homeland security.”

In his post, Trump said Schroyer “has what it takes to DETAIN AND DEPORT OUT Illegal Alien Criminals, including murderers, rapists, and drug traffickers, at an unprecedented rate.” Remember, our Administration has by far the HIGHEST Daily Arrest Rate by ICE and CBP than any other President.”
