Trump says Iran ceasefire is ‘over’ after latest round of strikes
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Washington had ended a ceasefire with Tehran after hostilities between the two sides escalated overnight.
“I think it’s over,” Trump said in response to a reporter’s question at a joint news conference with NATO chief Mark Rutte at the military alliance summit in Ankara on Wednesday.
“I don’t want to deal with them anymore… as far as I’m concerned, it’s over,” he added.
He added that the Washington delegation wanted to negotiate a peace agreement but saw it as a “waste of time” while dealing with the Iranian side.
Trump’s comments came after the United States and Iran accused each other of violating a ceasefire reached last month following new attacks.
The US military launched a series of powerful strikes against Iran in retaliation for the attack on three merchant ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department withdrew the exemption that allowed Iran to sell its oil.
