Trump says makes ‘no difference’ to him if Iran, US reach deal

Washington: US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he was not disturbed by the results of US-Iran talks in Pakistan and insisted that the US came out ahead of the war.

“It makes no difference to me whether we make a deal or not. That’s because we won,” Trump told reporters.

Trump said, “We are in very deep negotiations with Iran. We will win no matter what. We defeated them militarily.”

Trump was speaking as Vice President JD Vance led the US delegation in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, as talks with Iran headed into a second day.

Trump also reiterated the US military’s statement on Saturday that US Navy warships will pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital gateway to the oil-rich Gulf, and begin clearing it of Iranian mines.
This account has been rejected by Iran, which has power over the narrow waterway and with it the world’s oil supply, in retaliation for an attack launched by the United States and Israel on February 28. “We have minesweepers there. We are sweeping the strait.”

Trump said, “We will open the Strait even if we do not use it, because there are many countries in the world that use the Strait either because they are afraid, weak or cheap.”

He again expressed his disappointment with NATO allies who were left on the sidelines during the war and were not consulted in advance.

“I can tell you that NATO did not help us,” Trump said.
