Trump says Ukraine may get Tomahawk missiles to use against Russia

US President Donald Trump is considering sending Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, saying it would provide “a new step of aggression” in his war with Russia.

Asked aboard Air Force One if he would send Tomahawks to Ukraine, Trump replied, “we’ll see…I might.”

This followed a second phone call over the weekend between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who called for stronger military capabilities to launch counterattacks against Russia.

Moscow has previously warned Washington about supplying long-range missiles to Kiev, saying it would lead to a major escalation of the conflict and strain US-Russia relations.

Tomahawk missiles have a range of 2,500 km (1,500 mi), which will allow Moscow to reach Ukraine.

Trump spoke to reporters as he flew to Israel. He said he would probably talk to Russia about the Tomahawks requested by Ukraine.

“I can tell them [Russia] “If the war is not resolved we may well do it, we may not succeed but we can.”

“Are they [Russia] Want tomahawks to head towards them? “I don’t think so,” the president said.

Kiev has fielded multiple requests for long-range missiles as it weighs hitting Russian cities far from the front lines of fierce conflict.

In phone calls, Zelensky and Trump discussed Ukraine’s goal of strengthening its military capabilities, including increasing its air defenses and long-range weapons.

Ukrainian cities, including Kiev, have repeatedly come under heavy Russian bombardment with drones and missiles. Russia specifically targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, causing power outages.
