Peace talks to end the war in Ukraine are near completion, President Donald Trump said Sunday after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Florida; Both leaders noted great progress on the 20-point plan, while also acknowledging unresolved disputes over territory, ceasefire conditions and Ukraine’s approval.

Trump and Zelenskyy spoke to reporters after their meeting at Mar-a-Lago and described weeks of negotiations involving U.S., Ukrainian, European Union and NATO officials that are pushing a potential peace framework closer to the finish line; However, some important issues remain unresolved.

Trump said talks had intensified over the past month, suggesting discussions were more advanced than at any previous point in the war, while warning that final agreements depended on resolving a small number of difficult issues.

“We could be very close,” Trump said. “There are one or two very thorny, very challenging issues. But I think we’re doing very well. We’ve made a lot of progress today, but we actually did it last month. This is not a one-day process. It’s a very complex thing.”

“Our society must also choose and decide who should vote, because this is their land, not one person’s land,” Zelenskyy said. he said. “This has been our nation’s land for generations.”

Trump said polls showed strong public support for ending the war and reiterated his desire to end the conflict, citing the magnitude of casualties on both sides.
