Trump Says Would Be Great To Get A Peace Deal With Iran
JERUSALEM: US President Donald Trump said on Monday he wants a peace deal with Iran after the United States joined Israel in striking Iran’s nuclear sites during a brief war earlier this year.
In his speech in the Israeli parliament, Trump said about Iran, a major supporter of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, “They took it from one side, they took it from the other side, and you know it would be great if we could get a peace deal with them.”
“Would you be happy with that? I guess that wouldn’t be nice? Because I think that’s what they want.”
Trump said the ball is in Tehran’s court for any deal to happen.
“We’re ready when you’re ready,” the Republican said.
Trump also defended Washington’s withdrawal from a deal brokered by former President Barack Obama on Iran’s nuclear program, which has long been a problem in Israel’s relations with its arch-enemy.
“I terminated the Iran nuclear deal, and I was very proud to do so,” Trump said.
“Yet even Iran, whose regime has caused so many deaths in the Middle East, is open to friendship and cooperation,” he told the Knesset.
“They want to make a deal and we’ll see if we can work something out,” he added.
“Neither the United States nor Israel has any hostility towards the Iranian people. We just want to live in peace.”
