Donald Trump told Arab leaders in a leaked phone call that a peace deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz would be reached with Iran only if they normalize relations with Israel.
A conference call was held between the US president and powerful leaders of the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Egypt, to discuss the reopening of the vital oil transit route.
Trump reportedly warned leaders to normalize relations with Israel.
This statement shocked Arab leaders into silence, refusing to respond to the US president, according to Axios.
After the long break, Trump joked, “Are they still there?” he joked.
He then went on to announce that his envoys, Jared Jushner and Steve Witkoff, would follow up on Israeli normalization in the coming weeks.

Following a dramatic call over the weekend, peace talks between the United States and Iran stalled on Monday as Tehran unfroze its uranium stockpile and Iranian assets, according to the Wall Street Journal.
While the deal was being negotiated, Trump posted a new threat on the site Truth Social showing him negotiating on the phone with a caricatured terrorist, warning that it would “explode.”
The US president has previously said the agreement would either be a ‘great deal for everyone’ or ‘no deal at all’.
In his lengthy statement, Trump claimed negotiations with Iran were “progressing well” but warned that if a deal was not reached, U.S. forces would “return to the battlefront bigger and stronger than ever.”
He wrote: “Negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are progressing well! This will either be a Big Deal for all or no Deal at all – Back to the front and no shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever – And no one wants that!”
Despite these claims that the deal will happen, Iran’s National Security Council warned that there would be “no retreat” in the war with the United States, just hours after Trump pressed Tehran for a peace deal.

Minister Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr said the country’s army “put up fierce resistance and knocked out the enemy.”
He added: “The country needs unity and solidarity now more than ever, so that Americans and Zionists will also be disappointed in this regard.”
The statement came after two senior Iranian officials traveled to meet the Prime Minister of Qatar in Doha to discuss a peace deal with the United States.
The leaders are joined by Iran’s central bank governor to discuss the release of frozen funds, among other negotiations taking place.
Trump added that “it would be something special” if Iran joined the Abramahm Accords, a series of agreements signed to normalize diplomatic, economic and security relations between Israel and several Arab countries.
The US President added: “After all the work the United States has done to put together this very complex puzzle, it should be mandatory for all of these countries to sign the Abraham Accords at least simultaneously.”
