President Donald Trump filed an appeal Monday night. defamation case A claim for at least $5 billion in damages has been filed against the BBC in federal court in Florida.
The civil complaint accuses the British Broadcasting Corporation of producing “a false, defamatory, deceptive, derogatory, inflammatory and malicious portrayal of President Trump” in the Panorama documentary, which aired a week before the 2024 election.
Trump’s lawsuit alleges that the documentary was produced as part of a “brazen attempt to interfere with the election and influence the results of the election to the detriment of President Trump.”
The lawsuit is the latest in a series of defamation complaints filed against media outlets by the notoriously combative president.
Trump filed a $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times in September, accusing the newspaper of being the “mouthpiece” of the Democratic Party.
In July, Trump filed a lawsuit against media baron Rupert Murdoch and the publisher of The Wall Street Journal, seeking $10 billion in damages over a report that Trump sent an “obscene” letter to his then-friend Jeffrey Epstein for Epstein’s 50th birthday.
Trump denies sending or writing the letter, which is among the documents that have since handed over the estate of notorious sex offender Epstein to a congressional committee.
