Trump suggests army use on Minnesota anti-ICE protests

US President Donald Trump has threatened to use the Insurrection Act, which would allow him to deploy military forces in Minnesota, amid rising tensions over the deployment of federal agents in the state’s most populous city, which has become the focus of daily clashes.
“If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota do not follow the law and stop professional agitators and rioters from attacking ICE Patriots who are just trying to do their job, I will start an INSURRECTION MOVEMENT,” Trump wrote in his Truth Social post.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which is overseeing Trump’s immigration crackdown, said that during Wednesday’s incident, two men attacked a federal officer with a broomstick and snow shovel as he wrestled with a Venezuelan who DHS said was in the United States illegally.
The Insurrection Act is a law that gives the president the authority to deploy military force on US soil.
Presidents have invoked the Insurrection Act more than two dozen times, most recently by President George H.W. Bush in 1992 to end unrest in Los Angeles.
