Trump threatens China with cooking oil embargo over soybean snub

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that his administration is considering “terminating China’s Cooking Oil business” in retaliation for Beijing’s refusal to buy U.S. soybeans.

Trump said he believed China was committing an “Economically Hostile Act” by “deliberately not buying our Soybeans and causing hardship to our Soybean Farmers.”

In his speech at the meeting, he said ending business with China on cooking oil and “other elements of trade” were possible forms of “retaliation” that Trump was focusing on. Real Social post.

“For example, we can easily produce cooking oil ourselves, we do not need to buy it from China,” he wrote.

The president’s latest criticism follows a series of recent critical comments about China that have raised questions about the status of ongoing trade talks and sent stocks on a roller-coaster ride.

The S&P 500 index fell immediately after Trump’s post, finishing the trading day in the red after a choppy session.

Stocks fell on Friday after Trump threatened to drastically increase tariffs on Chinese imports in retaliation for China’s new export controls on rare earth minerals. Later that day, Trump said he would impose 100% additional tariffs on Chinese imports starting November 1.

But on Sunday Trump appeared to soften his attack, don’t write“Don’t worry about China, everything will be fine!”

Stocks broadly rebounded on Monday.
