Trump warns UK faces attack from ‘dangerous regime’ | World | News

Donald Trump warned Britain could be attacked by a “highly unstable and dangerous regime” as he urged Sir Keir Starmer to maintain control of Diego Garcia. The US president launched a scathing attack on Sir Keir on his platform Truth Social, suggesting the island’s military base could be used by American forces to “eliminate” such an attack.
He urged the Prime Minister not to cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius under the 99-year lease of the Diego Garcia military base. Trump wrote: “Our relationship with the United Kingdom is a strong and strong one and has been for many years, but Prime Minister Starmer is losing control of this important Island due to claims by previously unknown entities.
“In our view, these are fictional.
“If Iran decides not to make a deal, it may be necessary for the US to use Diego Garcia and the airspace at Fairford to deter a possible attack by a highly unstable and dangerous Regime, potentially an attack on the UK and other friendly countries.
“Prime Minister Starmer should not lose control of Diego Garcia for any reason by entering into a 100 Year Lease at best. “This land should not be taken from the UK and if this were allowed it would be a disaster for our Great Ally.
“We will always be ready, willing and able to fight for the United Kingdom, but they must remain strong in the face of Wokeism and other problems put before them. DON’T GIVE OUT DIEGO GARCIA!”

He wrote on Truth Social: “I have had very productive discussions with Prime Minister Keir Starmer about Diego Garcia Island… I understand that in many people’s opinion Prime Minister Starmer has made the best deal he could.”
The harsh message came just hours after the US State Department said it “supports the UK’s decision to maintain its agreement with Mauritius on the Chagos archipelago.”
According to the agreement, Britain will transfer sovereignty of the British Indian Ocean Territory to Mauritius but will lease back the facility on the island of Diego Garcia.
Mr. Trump’s message also came at a time of rising tensions between Iran and the United States; Mr. Trump has repeated over the past few weeks that he is ready to launch an attack on the Middle Eastern country if they fail to reach a nuclear deal.
