Trump ‘would be honoured’ to meet Iran’s Ayatollah – ‘has good reputation’ | World | News

US President Donald Trump said he would be “honoured” to meet Iran’s new religious leader, three months after a US military operation killed his family.

The USA and Israel attacked many important regions of Iran on February 28, and former religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed.

His son, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, was seriously injured in the attacks.

Mojtaba took control of Iran, which retaliated by striking sites in the Middle East and blocking the Strait of Hormuz waterway.

Asked if he would like to meet Mojtaba, Trump told reporters on Thursday, May 4: “I don’t want to meet, but if I do, I would be honored to meet him.”

“It’s possible I could meet him if we make a deal. I wouldn’t mind that.”

The epic Operation Rage killed not only Mojtaba’s father, but also his wife and child.

Asked if Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei had “bad feelings,” Trump said, “I would say I’m not his favorite person.”

“He’s probably a professional. He actually has a very good reputation in some circles. Sometimes people say bad things, but a lot of people also say bad things about me. Of course, that’s completely wrong.”

The United States and Iran have managed to maintain a fragile ceasefire for weeks.

But the countries have failed to secure a long-term peace deal and tensions threatened to escalate after the two countries exchanged attacks on military bases in the Middle East earlier this week.
