Publix closing in popular shopping district; 2nd location also shutting down

The Publix store in Atlanta’s popular shopping and dining district will close this month. Atlantic Station confirmed in a statement that the Publix store’s last day will be Dec. 27.

“The retail industry is cyclical, and Atlantic Station continues to adapt to strengthen our position as a leading mixed-use destination,” the statement said. “We have an opportunity to reimagine the space and consider concepts that will add new options and value to the surrounding community.”

Publix said in a statement: Channel 2 Action News “A number of factors” went into the decision to close the store.

“There has never been a layoff at Publix in our 95-year history. We will also offer our employees at location positions in Atlantic Station at neighboring stores if they desire.”

Channel 2’s Audrey Washington He was outside Publix talking to customers who were sad to see the store go.

Shopper Didem Pehlivanglu said, “I live here and I like that it is walkable and close. I can go and buy everything I need quickly.”

An Atlantic Station spokesperson shared a statement saying they saw this as “an opportunity to reimagine the space and consider concepts that will add new options and value to the surrounding community.”

Customers can visit five other Publix stores within a 2-mile radius of Atlantic Station:

• Plaza Midtown (1 mile): 950 W Peachtree St NW, Atlanta, GA 30309

• Howell Mill Village (2.5 miles): 2020 Howell Mill Rd NW Ste A, Atlanta, GA 30318

• Ansley Shopping Center (2.5 km): 1544 Piedmont Boulevard NE, Atlanta, GA 30324

• Publix in Piedmont (1.8 miles): 595 Piedmont Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30308

A Publix spokesman also said the store at 2562 Shallowford Rd. NE would close completely on December 27th. Employees were notified on Monday.
