Drivers of gasoline and diesel vehicles were warned about a new parking fee during reading. Operated by Labour, the Council announced that it plans to launch an official consultation on new emission -based parking fees in the region until September 12th.
The new offer will see that drivers with higher polluted vehicles pay more for parking and residents for parking permits. The Council hopes that strict rules will support the aim of improving the air quality in the district for the welfare of its inhabitants. A wider set of precaution is also offered to promote cycling, walking and public transportation.
Park tariffs are expected to increase 20% for gasoline vehicles and 25% for diesel ones. The fee will be applied to every price band according to the vehicle’s carbon dioxide emissions. GB News.
Fees will only affect vehicles with emission levels of 151g/km or higher and will severely affect gasoline and diesel vehicles compared to electric cars.
John Ennis, a member of the Assembly, said: “Although the air quality in reading is generally improved, there are areas where the pollution levels of the town are very high. This affects the health of inhabitants, especially children, elderly people and individuals with heart and lung conditions.”
According to the member of the Assembly, transportation is responsible for approximately 30% of all carbon emissions and hopes that the new movement will encourage low -emissions vehicles, public transport, cycling and walking.
“Emission -based parking fees are another way of trying to reduce air pollution as those with higher emissions will pay more to park in the town.
“However, it is important to emphasize that many low -emissions gasoline cars and electric vehicles will avoid extra wages.”
A official consultation will allow people to give their opinions about emission -based parking fees for both the inside of the street and the permission of residents.
Official Council documents indicate that air quality is “negatively affected” from vehicle emissions, and according to the authority, a way to encourage drivers to use other transportation methods has been priced. The emission -based charging will help the council to achieve the goal of being a carbon neutral by 2030.
However, the Council stressed that “these changes do not expect people to change their choices overnight”, but encourages people to think of their choices “while buying a new vehicle or making a short journey”.
The fee is to pay and exhibit on the street, including the permissions of the residents. Customers will be asked to enter the vehicle registration into new fees and screen machines, and the fees will be based on emission data held by DVLA for the purpose of road tax.
Automobile parks are not included in the plan.
The program will also apply to parking fees via telephone payment system. However, the Council shared that visitor permits are not currently included in the plan.
Drivers have mixed opinions about the proposal, claiming that the measures are “income -based parking fees”.
A resident on Facebook said: “These vehicles will not disappear in a magical way, so it will probably lead to careless and insecure parking of older and larger vehicles outside the affected areas.”
Reading representatives of the West and Middle Berkshire Labor Party called on their views to express their views because it was “very important for all inhabitants of the wards that are directly affected by the changes.
