TSA checkpoint breach at Atlanta airport: Bystander tackles Fabian Leon

Newly released security camera footage captured the tense moment when a suspect breached a TSA checkpoint at the Atlanta airport last year, only to be quickly tackled by a bystander and subdued within seconds.
Police released footage through a public records request showing the incident, which occurred on the morning of Oct. 30 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Fox 5 Atlanta It was reported on Thursday.
The news stated that the suspect was 40-year-old Fabian Leon, who was later accused of simple assault and evading security measures.
The footage shows Leon speeding through the airport before trying to enter the TSA checkpoint.

As they approached the first screening area, Leon aggressively pushed an agent, knocking the officer to the ground and hitting him in the process.
A TSA officer then reacted and reportedly shouted “violation,” causing bystander Mark Thomas to turn back without hesitation.
Thomas then appeared to quickly lunge at Leon, quickly grabbing him and lifting him up before slamming the suspect to the ground.

“I saw him take down the first guy and then a TSA agent tried to grab him and as he was about to pass me, I said ‘okay, I’ll take over if I can,'” Thomas said, according to Fox 5. he said.
Immediately after the incident, the eyewitness recalled that Leon acted strangely calm and “detached” from the situation, even appearing “soft-spoken” as he repeatedly told everyone he was fine and wanted to be let go.
“He was very soft-spoken. He was just saying, ‘Oh, I’m fine, I’m fine, let me go, let me go, I’m fine,'” Thomas said. “It’s obvious that he’s kind of detached from the whole situation.”
Police said Leon later told officers he had been drinking and using drugs shortly before the incident.

Authorities eventually secured Leon by holding him in a chair at the scene, according to the footage.
During the fight, police said all three of their officers were attacked.

The airport could benefit from additional police presence, although Thomas said he would step in again if necessary.
“I think there should have been more police presence there, I shouldn’t have had to take him down,” Thomas said, according to Fox 5. “I don’t know how many checkpoints or how many people he went through before this.”
