TSA PreCheck vs regular security lines
TSA PreCheck is a program that allows its 20 million pre-screened members to pass through airport security faster than standard lanes.
During normal security operations, the agency estimates that approximately 99% of passengers with PreCheck wait less than 10 minutes.
What time should you go to the airport?
TSA generally advises passengers to arrive at the airport two hours in advance for domestic flights and three hours in advance for international flights.
With the government shutdown, the agency is urging travelers to contact their airlines and plan extra time for safety.
About this data
CNBC relies on publicly disclosed wait times from individual airports. Some airports occasionally publish wait times, while others do not publish them at all. Wait times can change rapidly due to passenger volume, staffing, weather and operational delays.
Methodology
CNBC’s TSA wait time tracker checks reports from the 50 busiest airports in the US every 30 minutes. If airports report different waiting times for different terminals, the longest one is displayed.
