Tube stikes LIVE: London commuters face double misery as bus routes also to be disrupted | UK | News

On Friday 24 April, London commuters and visitors to the capital faced fresh travel chaos following days of disruption due to a strike affecting the London Underground and a separate action affecting some bus routes. Industrial action has been called for by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT), which represents around half of drivers on the tube network and is in dispute with Transport for London (TfL) over changes to the working week, saying it is concerned about the safety impact of the proposed shift lengths.

More chaos is expected on Friday after metro lines were hit by serious delays on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week; Tube services will start later than usual, not before 7.30am. TfL warned that serious disruptions would be expected on all lines until noon, and that services could recover in the afternoon and evening. Although passengers can rely on buses this week, some routes may be affected by a separate strike on April 24. TfL said: “The majority of buses will operate as normal throughout these strikes, however 7 bus routes operated by Stagecoach will be affected by separate strike action between 5am on Friday 24 April and 5am on Saturday 25 April. Other buses will operate as usual.” The DLR, Elizabeth Line and Overground lines will operate as normal but are likely to be busier than normal.
