Turkish military cargo plane crashes in Georgia

The Ministry of National Defense announced that the Turkish C-130 military cargo plane, which took off from Azerbaijan to return to Türkiye, crashed in Georgia.

It was stated that search and rescue operations were carried out in coordination with Georgian and Azeri authorities, but no other details were given about the cause of the accident or casualties.

In the ministry’s statement regarding X, it was not stated how many crew members were on the plane that was said to have crashed near the Azerbaijan-Georgia border.

President Tayyip Erdoğan stated that they hoped to overcome the accident with minimal losses and expressed his condolences to the “martyrs” on the plane.

C-130 military cargo aircraft are widely used by the Turkish Armed Forces for personnel transportation and logistics operations.

Türkiye and Azerbaijan maintain close military cooperation.

Video footage of the crash, broadcast on Türkiye’s private NTV and other channels, reportedly showed the plane spiraling as it descended, leaving a trail of white smoke.
