Two boys die in hot car in UK base after ‘allegedly left to sleep’ | World | News

Two young boys have tragically died after they were allegedly left in a car “to sleep” on a popular holiday island.
Eight- and ten-year-old boys were found dead in a vehicle parked in a field close to a residential area in Cyprus.
According to Cyprus Post, the devastating incident took place at Britain’s Dhekelia base and police from British bases arrived at the scene.
Local media reported that the children were allegedly left to sleep in the car. According to medical experts, children of Bulgarian origin suffered extreme muscle stiffness and burns caused by sun exposure.
Police have since arrested the children’s father and stepmother on suspicion of negligence in the deaths.
A British base spokesman confirmed officers were investigating at a property in Xylophagou, Famagusta district, to determine the cause of death.
While the exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed, local media report that the children’s bodies showed signs consistent with drowning.
Forensic medical examinations are being conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The tragedy occurred at a time when temperatures were rising across Europe and record-breaking temperatures were being recorded across the continent.
Four similar incidents were reported across Europe during the ongoing heatwave last week. An 18-month-old baby who was left in the car by his family in France died.
He died Tuesday at La Timone Hospital in Marseille after firefighters found him in his vehicle in the parking lot of a university medical campus.
The baby was found unconscious and suffering from hyperthermia due to the sweltering heat inside the car.
In a separate incident in France, two children died after being left in a locked car by their mother.
A 33-year-old mother now faces manslaughter charges after her four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son were found dead in the backseat of a parked car.
