A married British couple tragically drowned off the coast of Australia while on holiday Down Under to visit family.

The horror happened while two tourists, both in their 60s, were enjoying rowing in the water at around 11 in the morning local time.

It was reported that a 66-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman were pulled to shore by beachgoers, while off-duty nurses performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Shortly afterwards, NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and continued CPR; However, the man and the woman could not be saved and died at the scene.

The couple’s family members were allegedly at the scene.

NSW Police have praised the work of two off-duty female nurses and a young man to help the couple.

A spokesman for the force said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts go out to the family.”
