Two girls seriously injured in German school attack.

Following an incident at a school in Upper Bavaria, Germany, two 13-year-old girls were seriously injured and a 16-year-old suspect was arrested.

Police said a major operation was underway in the area of the Welfen-Gymnasium secondary school in the small town of Schongau.

Police said the suspect was carrying a knife as well as a firearm and they believed they acted alone.

Police added that none of the girls had life-threatening injuries, but the number of others involved and the severity of their injuries were now being clarified.

A police spokesman had previously told the AFP news agency that it was unclear what weapon was used in the attack and refused to confirm reports of the stabbing.

The suspect’s identity is unknown and it is unclear whether he is affiliated with the school.

The police spokesman added that police believed the incident was a case of “rage”.

A contact point for students’ relatives and guardians was established at a fire station in the town.

According to its website, the school was founded in 1887 and was initially almost exclusively an all-girls school. She has been mixed gender for the last 40 years.
