Two men are charged with multiple counts of rape after woman, 18, ‘was attacked by strangers’

Two men have been charged with multiple rapes after an 18-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted.

The attack took place between 1am and 3am on Wednesday at an address on Manners Road, Southsea, Hampshire.

Detectives launched an investigation after the victim was raped by ‘two men she did not know’, police said.

Tony Goldsmith, 45, of Enfield, north London, and Bobby Watson, 46, of Waltham Abbey in Essex, were each charged with three counts of rape.

The detained couple will be referred to the courthouse on Monday.

Officers continue to investigate the ‘full circumstances’ surrounding the alleged assault.

A spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: ‘Two men have been accused of raping a woman in Southsea.

‘Detectives launched an investigation after a report that an 18-year-old woman was raped by two men she did not know on Wednesday, June 24.

‘The incident occurred between 01.00 and 03.00 in the morning at an address on Manners Road.

‘Officers are carrying out full investigations to establish the full circumstances and have charged two men in relation to the incident.

‘Tony Goldsmith, 45, of Gilbert Street, Enfield, has been charged with three counts of rape.

‘Bobby Watson, 46, of Highbridge Street, Waltham Abbey, Essex, has been charged with three counts of rape.

‘They were taken into custody and will appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 29.’
