Two men in hospital after brazen alleged hit and run

Two people were seriously injured when they were allegedly mowed down and attacked by a stranger.

A 41-year-old man allegedly ran over two men at a property in Coorabell, near Byron Bay on the NSW north coast, about 6.20am on Friday.

Police say a 54-year-old man was trapped under a car after being run over.

It was claimed that a 38-year-old man was suffocated by the driver after being hit by the same car.

Police allege the 41-year-old driver fled the scene in the car but was arrested a short time later in nearby Mullumbimby.

The two victims, whom the driver did not know, received first aid from citizens until the medical teams arrived.

The 54-year-old man, who suffered serious injuries to his face and upper body, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The victim of the strangulation was treated for head trauma and taken to Tweed Valley Hospital in a serious condition.

The arrested man’s car was seized for forensic examination.

He was charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was refused bail.

The man will appear in court on Saturday.
